2011-12 Green Team

The GREEN TEAM is a group of students
who are recognized for exceptional contributions to the collection and
analysis of data that is conducted semi-annually in local riparian
areas.
Riparian zones or areas are essentially the narrow strips of land that border creeks, rivers or other bodies of water. Because of their proximity to water, plant species and topography of riparian zones differ considerably from those of adjacent uplands. Although riparian areas may occupy only a small percentage of the area of a watershed, they represent an extremely important component of the overall landscape.
Each fall and spring, all science classes venture out to
collect data used to analyze the local riparian areas. Students
collect macro-invertebrates, flora and water samples. In addition
students identify visible trash, natural and unnatural elements of the
designated areas.
The project qualified for an SRP grant that
funded acquisition of additional collection and water testing
materials. All science classes participate in the project and it
is an honor to be designated a member of the GREEN TEAM.
